Maintain Your PMI Certification with Bluetellura

Earning a PMI certification is a significant achievement—but it’s only the beginning. To protect and uphold your hard-earned credential, the next step is maintaining it through continuous professional development, which includes actively reporting your PDUs to PMI.

What are PDUs?

Professional Development Units (PDUs) are PMI-recognized credits that help you maintain your certification over a 3-year renewal cycle—without needing to retake the exam.1 PDU = 1 hour of learning or professional activity. These units ensure you stay sharp, relevant, and equipped with the latest project management skills in a fast-changing industry.

At Bluetellura, we offer a variety of flexible, expert-led options to help you earn and report your PDUs—aligned with your learning preferences and career goals. Whether you prefer live instruction, on-demand courses, or practical workshops, we’ve got you covered every step of the way.

To qualify for PMP certification renewal, you need to meet specific professional development requirements established by PMI. Learn more about these requirements and how to track your progress during your certification cycle.

What is a Professional Development Unit (PDU)?

A professional development unit, or PDU, represents one hour spent on activities that support your professional growth. These can include learning new skills, sharing knowledge with others, or volunteering.

To renew your PMP certification, you must earn 60 distinct PDUs within a three-year cycle—meaning you need to dedicate at least 60 hours to ongoing development during that time.

What are ways I can earn PDUs?

PMI allows for two types of PDU reporting – Education Units and Giving Back to the Profession Units.

PDU Classes

Education PDUs

You can earn PDUs through various learning formats such as on-demand online courses, live virtual instructor-led sessions, PM-related learning events, local PMI chapter meetings, or even self-directed study through online or digital media. To qualify, education PDUs must align with the PMI Talent Triangle®.At Bluetellura, all of our training programs—whether on-demand or live—are pre-approved by PMI and designed to meet the Talent Triangle’s requirements, making it easy for you to earn and report your PDUs with confidence.

Giving Back to the Profession PDUs

While not mandatory for recertification, these PDUs offer an excellent opportunity for professionals looking to broaden their project management expertise. You can earn them through activities such as working as a practitioner, developing content, delivering presentations, sharing knowledge, or volunteering. Bluetellura’s Program provides flexible, guided paths to help you earn PDUs in this category and continue advancing your professional growth - learn more.

Note: There are limits to the number of PDUs you can claim within each category, and all activities must be well-documented in case of a PMI audit. For full details, please refer to PMI’s CCR Handbook.

With evolving industries, technologies, and work environments, professionals and their teams are under pressure to respond quickly, collaborate efficiently, and drive value.

To succeed in this future-focused environment, project managers need a balanced skillset that spans a wide range of disciplines. That’s why the PMI Talent Triangle emphasizes a blend of three essential skill areas:

At Bluetellura, we guide our certification holders in maintaining their PMI credentials by helping them meet the PDU requirements across all three skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle® — Ways of Working, Business Acumen, and Power Skills. CONTINUING CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (CCRs)

PMI CCRs

PMI has defined Continuing Certification Requirements (CCRs) for every certification. Each PMI certification is governed by the CCR program, which requires you to earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) to keep your skills sharp and your certification current. All PDU activities are designed to align with the Exam Content Outline (ECO) specific to your certification, ensuring continued relevance and value in your professional growth.

You can review the CCR Handbook to understand the PDU amounts needed and the qualifying activities for your certification. There are many opportunities to earn PDUs. More specific details can be found in the PMI CCR Handbook, along with additional resources at https://ccrs.pmi.org/info/handbooksguides.

How Do I Report My PDUs?

After you earn PDUs, you’ll log them in PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS). CCRS lets you monitor your total PDUs throughout the three-year cycle so you can stay on target for renewal. Because Bluetellura is an Authorized Training Partner (ATP), all of our courses—and those offered by our sister brand, Watermark Learning—carry PMI-pre-approved PDU credits.

That means faster, hassle-free reporting: your completion certificate lists a unique course ID, and entering that ID along with our company name in CCRS automatically matches the pre-approved course, minimizing audit risk and saving you time.

Submit Your PDUs to CCRS

Throughout your three-year PMP certification renewal cycle, you’ll need to report your earned PDUs using PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS). The process is user-friendly and straightforward:

1. Log in to your CCRS dashboard to view the status of your submitted PDUs.

2. Click on “Report PDUs.”

3. Choose the appropriate PDU category from the dropdown list.

4. Complete the required fields to describe your professional development activity—this helps PMI validate the claim.

5. Enter the number and type of PDUs earned.

6. Confirm the accuracy of your entry by ticking the agreement box.

7. Click “Submit.

After submission, you’ll be directed to a summary page. PMI will follow up with two emails: one confirming that your PDU claim is under review, and another indicating whether it’s been approved and added to your account, or rejected.
